چکیده

Department of Mathematics and Mechanics, Yerevan State University, Alex Manoogian, 1 0025 Yerevan, Armenia. [email protected]. Using the inclusion-exclusion principle and the Pleijel identity, an algorithm for calculation chord length distribution function for a bounded convex polygon is obtained. In the particular case an expression for the chord length distribution function for a rhombus is obtained.

On the Relative Lengths of Sides of Convex Polygons

Let C be a convex body. By the relative distance of points p and q we mean the ratio of the Euclidean distance of p and q to the half of the Euclidean length of a longest chord of C parallel to pq. The aim of the paper is to find upper bounds for the minimum of the relative lengths of the sides of convex hexagons and

Partial Innation of Closed Polygons in the Plane

Innation for simply closed regular curves in the plane has been investigated rst by S. A. Robertson 4] and studied in some more detail in 5]. It consists of an innnite iteration of reeections of parts of the curve at supporting double tangents, hopefully leading to a convex limit curve which has the same arc length as the original curve. The same procedure easily can be deened for simply closed...

Bertrand’s Paradox Revisited: More Lessons about that Ambiguous Word, Random

The Bertrand paradox question is: “Consider a unit-radius circle for which the length of a side of an inscribed equilateral triangle equals 3 . Determine the probability that the length of a ‘random’ chord of a unit-radius circle has length greater than 3 .” Bertrand derived three different ‘correct’ answers, the correctness depending on interpretation of the word, random. Here we employ geomet...

Chord-length and free-path distribution functions for many-body systems

We study fundamental morphological descriptors of disordered media (e.g., heterogeneous materials, liquids, and amorphous solids): the chord-length distribution function p(z) and the free-path distribution function p(z,a). For concreteness, we will speak in the language of heterogeneous materials composed of two different materials or “phases.” The probability density function p(z) describes th...

A Linear-time Construction of Reuleaux Polygons

The relation between planar geometric graphs which are full equi-intersectors and Reuleaux polygons is studied. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between these objects. This is used to present exhaustive constructions of Reuleaux polygons of arbitrary (odd) order n. The obvious construction is running in quadratic time, but more careful investigations lead to a reened versio...
